Harper, my typical middle child, really didn't talk until she was 3 years old. She had a big sister that did all the talking for her. But, when she hit that 3rd year mark, she began telling everyone every single thought that popped into her head. It is usually accompanied by some musical prelude that is sung incredibly, although adorably, out of key. Although she has personality plus, she becomes introverted when it comes to uncomfortable situations. You see, Harper has a gentle heart that breaks very easily. We have to handle her with care as she feels her emotions to the max. When things get too tough, she shuts down. Brynly is tough; Harper is more fragile. In the hospital room, Harper kept her distance from Holden and would occasionally steal quick glances in his direction. She would just shake her 'no' when asked if she wanted to hold him. Bill took her out of the room and told her that this would be one of the last chances to hold him and that she would be pretty sad to never have a picture of her holding him. She marched right back into that room, embraced him and smothered him with kisses. Something beautiful happened that day. I saw this fragile 5-year-old face her fear with all the might she could muster; with more strength than most adults would. She now sings to Holden and dances with his urn. She talks about how he goes with her to school and sits on her shoulder. I do not know what I have done to deserve such an angel on earth but I am amazed by her spirit everyday. Even though we call her "Hurricane Harper" sometimes, she truly brings an irreplaceable force to our family. Such a precious soul who I am honored to call my daughter ♥
